Food as aphrodisiac has been sought after for centuries. Be it psychological or suggestive, many throughout history have used foods as aphrodisiac. Legends say that Cleopatra, the queen of ancient Egypt, was one of them. One of her favorite foods some believe was the fig. But if the only thing all these foods do is to improve our general health that is good enough, as the cliché goes, “you are what you eat.”
Here is a list of popular foods that some also call aphrodisiac.

Asparagus – is a good source of iron, magnesium, zinc, fiber, protein, vitamins A, C, E, K, B-complex vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, copper, manganese and selenium. (Click on photo for recipe.)

- Almonds – were once regarded a fertility symbol. They are a good source of vitamin E, riboflavin, magnesium and manganese. (Click on photo for recipe.)
- Avocado – Aztecs named it ahuacuatl, meaning “testicle tree“. Avocados are a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, K and foliate. And they make wonderful Sandwiches! (Click on photo for recipe.)
- Chocolate – an all time favorite and a source of protein, potassium, zinc, dietary fiber, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper and manganese. (Click on photo for recipe.)
- Figs – are a good source of dietary fiber, though high in natural sugars.
- Garlic – is good for the heart. It’s a source of calcium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, vitamins C, B6. And it has high anti-inflammatory rating.

- Oysters – is a source of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, iron, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, protein, vitamins B6, and B12. (Eating raw oysters not advised.*)
