9 Tips for an Energy Boost

Is your energy drained especially at work, home and around the kids? Need a quick fix? Here are a few tips for a quick energy fix.

  1. Drink pure water, in case you are dehydrated. If I’m dragging, I might add to the water Emergen-C.
  2. Go for a short walk – 15-minute walk might be all you need.
  3. Avoid junk food, white foods such as sugars, flours, pastries, any sweets or processed food. Only whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.
  4. Don’t skip meals, but make them simple and healthy.
  5. Afternoon snacks: tea, veggies with nut butter such as celery stick or apple slices with almond or peanut butter.
  6. Eat raw fruits, vegetables, and nuts – they are packed with nutrients that have not been destroyed by heat.
  7. I follow a gluten-free diet. Some experts believe that a gluten-free diet has an athletic performance advantage. But I have followed a gluten-free diet for two decades to avoid seasonal allergies and to gain energy. It has worked for me.
  8. This is my favorite: sniff some peppermint oil. 
  9. If nothing else works for me, I take a sublingual Vitamin B-12 (actually, I started taking daily since 1986 when I first became a vegetarian). I usually take a B-12 and any protein bar or drink with spirulina.

If this is chronic, consult with your physician, have him/her check your thyroid also.
